Three Conferences, One Theme

Chances, Challenges & Changes in Environmental Enhancement

“Bridging the Geospatial Digital Divide in Support of 2030 SDGs”

With more and more people living in urban areas and concentrations in a number of mega-cities worldwide, we are left with rapid changes that pose challenges to urban planners. There is a need to abandon traditional mapping methods and turn to new technologies that can help the world keep up by providing accurate information and insights and ensure efficient city infrastructure management.

Current advances in Earth Observation and Geospatial Information Technologies offer new solutions to problems, such as management and sustainable urban development, by supporting population density mapping, traffic planning, city planning and urban zoning. These technologies also bring solutions to various disciplines like natural hazards and disaster management, environmental change studies, monitoring and managing meteorological, geological, agricultural, ecological, and topographical mapping utilizing artificial intelligence and sensors.

Hosting, for the first time, three International conferences under one common resounding theme, IEREK is happy to organize the 4th editions of the Future and Smart Cities (FSC) and Resilient and Responsible Architecture & Urbanism (RRAU) conferences together with the 7th Edition of the Earth Observation for Environmental Changes (EOEC) & 9th edition of the Geo-information Technologies for Natural Disaster Management (GiT4NDM) conference.

This conference offers an interdisciplinary forum in the fields of Environment, Sustainable Development, Remote Sensing, Surveying and Mapping, Geodesy and Geosciences, Forestry, Renewable Energy, Smart Cities, City Planning, Urban Design, Transportation, Natural Hazards, Disaster Management, and Climate Change Science, among many others.

This event is jointly organized by the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering in Xiamen University in Malaysia (XMUM) in collaboration with the International Experts for Research Enrichment and Knowledge Exchange (IEREK). The event is supported by other universities and research institutes including the Southwest Jiaotong University in China and the University of Waterloo in Canada in hopes of enhancing current research and innovation and further promote an exchange of knowledge.

About the FSC 4th Edition:

A Smart City is a city well-performing in a forward-looking way in these six characteristics (smart economy, smart people, smart governance, smart mobility, smart environment, smart living), built on the ‘smart’ combination of endowments and activities of self-decisive, independent and aware citizens’, Possibly some of these characteristics are not crucial for every city or even do not create and sustain smartness for others.

What is important or not will be discussed through our 4th international conference on "Future Smart Cities" in collaboration with Xiamen University in Selangor, Malaysia, where the city has a promising potential of transformation to be smarter.

The term ‘smart city’ is given to a city that integrates both information and communication technologies (ICT) in order to boost the quality and performance of urban services, which include energy transportation and utilities. Hence, reducing resource consumption, wastage, and overall costs in general. The main aim of a smart city is to enhance the quality of living for its citizens through smart technology. Proposals and researches are requested to discuss the new proposals of future cities, as well as the transformation of our cities to be in the scope.

In this conference a huge number of researchers and stakeholders are interested to discuss how building smart cities foster sustainability and what are the challenges and concerns that should be considered while investing in the services and infrastructure supporting the city to be more livable.
