Introduction

Smart Cities

Previous statistics

In 2016, statistics showed that 54.5% of the world's population lived in cities and a further rise expected to occur and more resources consumed over the years.

The importance of smart cities

Importance of smart cities is rapidly growing, therefore, innovative methods are being developed to solve daily problems, in hopes of improving the standard of living of cities' inhabitants.

How do we make cities smarter and more sustainable?

This rising importance of cities brings about the topic of rebuilding new ones and efficiently managing their services that are inclusive of water, electricity, transportation systems and even more.

Only then does a proper management of infrastructural investments and economic growth become possible.

Other practices of improving cities encompass urban planning, architectural development, smart building, environmental sustainability and using future technology.

Only through a discussion of existing issues and potential solutions will the world be able to reach smart city development.

It is essential to understand the practices and advances made in cities around the globe, to integrate them in other cities.
