Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norsidah Ujang is an Associate Professor at the Department of Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Design and Architecture, Universiti Putra Malaysia.
She received her PhD in Architectural Studies from Universiti Putra Malaysia; Masters in Urban Design; Diploma in Architecture (RIBA Part II) from Oxford Brookes University, U.K. and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Miami, USA.
She engaged with CNL Architect & Designers and Arkitek Rekabina before joining the academia.
She was appointed as a Deputy Dean (Academic and Student Affairs/Alumni) (2008-2013); and attached as a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Planning and Urban Studies, MIT under the UTM-MIT Sustainable Cities Program (Cohort 2015- 2016). Norsidah’s specializes in Urban Design, Environmental Attachment and Behaviour. Her research interests include urban regeneration, place attachment, place identity, social urbanism and sustainable pedestrian environment.
To date, Norsidah has published 35 indexed journal articles, 4 chapters in book and numerous conference proceedings. Norsidah has completed 5 research projects as Principal Investigator and 2 projects as InterUniversity Research Collaborator.
She researched on Urban Transformation and Sustainability, a sabbatical attachment granted by MIT-UTM MSCP Program.
She is the principal supervisor for 11 postgraduate researchers.
She co-ordinates the development of Masters in Tropical Urban Design Program (Coursework) and leads the faculty’s Urban Design Research Group (UDRG).
Norsidah has served as an International Board Member and Scientific Committe of Association of Malaysian Environment-Behaviour Researchers (AMERABRA); ArchNet-International Journal of Architectural Research (IJAR); ALAMCIPTA. She has been invited as a keynote speaker (AicQoL2015, Jakarta) and as a speaker in forums and conferences.
Norsidah reviewed papers for Cities, JSSH Pertanika, STEDEX Art and Design Catalogues, book chapters and conference papers.
She was awarded 2nd Runners-Up in AicQoL2014 for Best Paper Award; Best Paper Award in 5th ASEAN Postgraduate Seminar in Built Environment (2009, 2010) and UPM Excellence Service Award (2008, 2013). Norsidah is a registered Graduate Architect of Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM); a member of the Eastern Regional Organisation for Planning and Human Settlements (EAROPH) and the Association of Malaysian/Asian Environment-Behaviour Researchers (AMERABRA).
