Introduction

A touch on history accompanied with understanding of the theories of architecture, a workshop is to be conducted discussing the ‘symbolism’ model through analysis of various distinctive architectural examples. Participants will be able to apply what they have acquired by designing a project that reflects on the certain design model.

Professor of History and Theories of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University, Egypt.

Ibrahim MAAROUF is the professor of History and Theories of Architecture at Alexandria University, Faculty of Engineering, Egypt. There, he teaches multiple modules of History of Architecture, Theories of Architecture, Architectural Criticism, and Execution Design. He is the former head of the ‘Architectural and Construction Engineering Program, Faculty of Engineering’ at Alexandria University. He specializes in focused research with particular interest in historical aspects, contemporary architectural trends, criticism, local Identity, and contextualism. In addition, he is actively involved in scientific publishing, including editing, and reviewing of research articles through his role as a reviewer of the Alexandria Engineering Journal, (Alexandria University, Egypt). He is credited with founding the consultancy firm; ‘Design, Architects and Engineers’ (est. 1999). As well as being the co-founder of ‘Historian Architects’, an organization that gathers people interested in history and architecture to explore the different cultures.
