General Look on Tourism

Tourism:

Tourism is travelling from a place to another for a certain purpose, for example, attending a conference or watching your favourite team play, etc… Tourism may be international, or within the traveller’s country.

Types of Tourism:

Recreation tourism is when people go to a place that is very different from their regular day-to-day life to relax and have fun. Cultural tourism is to experience history and culture of a certain place. Nature tourism is to see wildlife or just to relish the midst of nature. Sports tourism is to see a match and to visit sporting facilities. Religious tourism is the type of tourism when travelers go to religious locations. Pleasure tourism is when a tourist’s main aim is to improve their physical or spiritual condition. Business tourism is when a person wants to complete a business transaction or attend a meeting. Social tourism is to go visit someone and accompanying them. Medical or health tourism is when one goes to a certain place to improve one’s health or to have a surgery. Adventure tourism involves challenging activities like rock climbing, mountain climbing and wild water rafting.

Benefits of Tourism:

It helps the employment of people and has several job opportunities. A tourist would need a place to stay so he would pay for a hotel as well as he would like to eat so he would pay for food. A thriving tourism industry supports growth in other sectors, such as transport, construction, agriculture and retailing. As tourism increases there are more opportunities for small business to develop. It also increases community awareness and pride, as tourists are interested in visiting a certain place. Tourism activity often prompts the conservation of cultural heritage, either because of increased awareness and pride, or because it can be justified on economic grounds as a tourist attraction. Many tourist destinations attract a good number of foreign tourists which helps the country earn foreign exchange.

Disadvantages of Tourism:

It is very expensive as the travelling costs increase so the overall spending of a person increases. It also might lead to environmental hazards due to the use of cigars and tourists use more transportation vehicles so more greenhouse gases are produced. In order to attract more tourists and earn more profits, sprawling resorts are built cutting down thousands of trees beside sea beaches. These resorts destroy the breathtaking beauty of the place as no attention is paid to the local architecture and ecology. So many maintenances are required to keep the local architecture from being completely damaged.

Ways to Improve Tourism:

One of the ways to improve tourism is by improving means of transportation for travelers to ensure their satisfaction and comfort, coupled with that enhancing other facilities like hotels and tourist attraction sights by making regular maintenances to these places. Besides, these places should be easy to be accessed by tourists and create attractive tourism products.
