On the list of the top 10 greenest cities in the world comes the following ones:

  1. Copenhagen, Denmark:

Though Copenhagen is already a tourist attraction city, for its magnificent scenery and sightseeing places like castles and famous little mermaid statue, it also now attracts people with its position as one of the greenest cities in the world.

And like other European green cities its dedication to sustainability and environmental standards has put it as one of the European green capitals, which is done due to the government’s and citizen’s cooperation to achieve the highest standards of hygienic status.

 

  1. Freiburg, Germany:

Freiburg is an exceptional city by itself, as it is the only city in Europe that is totally car-free. With most all the neighboring cities full of noise and pollution due to the extensive use of fossil fuel in cars, Freiburg managed to use the traditional means of transportation.

The use of solar panels on almost all buildings varying from schools, churches to city hall. And it’s intended to decrease the carbon emission by 40% by the year 2030

Add to that the wide area of greenery around the city which adds to its environmental and sustainable value.

  1. Malmö, Sweden:

It is considered one of the greenest cities in the world due to its use of renewable and alternative energy especially the wind-energy and it has the third largest wind energy park in the world also it has a wide greenery area that adds to its environmental value.

The city depends completely on renewable energy like wind, hydro and solar energy and the only kind fuel used is biofuel which is produced from organic waste, and all the buildings are built from sustainable material and designed to be energy efficient.

With all these and other approaches, the city is planned to be climate neutral by the year 2020
