color: #333399;\">Urban development<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #333300;\"> The availability of land became an ever-growing issue owing to claims made by the rapidly increasing levels of mobility.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #333300;\">\u2022 In the 1980\u2019s the population increased rapidly; when it stabilized, households became smaller and as a result number of households increased.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #333300;\"> \u2022 Whilst the need for housing and for urban space kept on growing, the negative effects of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ierek.com\/events\/GU4th\">urban sprawl<\/a> called for a change in the outwards-oriented movement in the surge for urban space.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #333399;\">New Urbanism<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ierek.com\/events\/GU4th\">New urbanism<\/a> is an American urban design movement that arose in the early 1980\u2018s.<\/p>\n<p>Its goal to reform many aspects of real estate development and urban planning, from urban retrofits to suburban infill.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Creation of diverse, compact, and mixed neighborhoods.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-9516 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ierek.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/\u0635\u0635\u0635\u0635\u0635\u0635\u0635-300x280.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"364\" height=\"340\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Everyday activities, such as housing, work, schools, shops, and other \u00a0 \u00a0amenities, are all ideally within 19 minutes\u2018 walking distance of each other.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The aim is to provide a pleasant, comfortable, interesting, and safe environment for pedestrians, and to provide alternatives to car use such as public, transit and cycling facilities.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #333399;\">Advantages of the compact city <\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Less car dependency, low emissions, reduced energy consumption by.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">(1) Shifting from car to walking, cycling and public transport.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">(2) Reducing trip distances.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">(3) Reducing total number of trips.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Better public transport services, increased overall accessibility, re-use of infrastructure and previously developed land.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 The rejuvenation of existing urban areas and urban vitality, a high quality of life, the preservation of green space and a milieu \u00a0 \u00a0for enhanced business and trading activities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Strengthening of the self-containment, diversity and multifunctionality of the city.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #333399;\">Urban sustainability<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">*\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ierek.com\/events\/GU4th\"><strong>Sustainable development<\/strong><\/a> involves more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ierek.com\/events\/GU4th\">environmental conservation<\/a>; it embraces the need for equity. Both intra-generational equity providing for the needs of the least advantaged in society, and inter-generational equity, ensuring a fair treatment of future generations, need to be considered.<br \/>\n*\u00a0Challenges generating models of urban sustainability:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 proliferate and transform the entire global economy into a balance-seeking relationship with our natural ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 reconcile humankind with the natural environment, whose health is the precondition for all human activity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 develop and maintain a continually re-balancing relationship among their internal social and economic activities and with their wider natural and agricultural landscape.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 to develop a real and viable alternative to decline, not merely on a theoretical basis, but in a real place: the sustainable city.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #333399;\">Indices for evaluating urban sustainability<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The principles common to most definitions are the maintenance of the urban system&#8217;s survival, the fostering of evolution in the long term, and the consideration of urban development in terms of three key features:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9496\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ierek.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/rrrrrrrr-300x155.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"318\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #333399;\">Conclusion<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Empiricism: for example, the reduction of car mobility did not occur, and the enormous need for housing made urban spread in the countryside unavoidable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Although the compact city was initially not meant to be a blueprint for sustainability, belief in the positive effects of this concept is widespread.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">*\u00a0The compact city concept is most of all a spatial concept with the intention of intensifying the use of existing urban space as much as possible, thereby improving the quality of urban life and sparing the countryside.<br \/>\n*\u00a0Compactness as a concept for sustainability seems primarily to be a belief in a simplicity that is not there.
