cooling with good insulation and high efficiency windows.<\/p>\n<p>The ability to have natural breath is mandatory in zero energy buildings.<\/p>\n<p>These <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ierek.com\/events\/resilient-responsible-architecture-urbanism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>features<\/strong><\/a> differ from one constructing zone to another.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Advantages_and_disadvantages\" class=\"mw-headline\">Advantages:<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>avoiding future energy price increasing.<\/li>\n<li>stable interior temperatures.<\/li>\n<li>less required energy.<\/li>\n<li>lower cost of ownership\u00a0due to improved energy efficiency.<\/li>\n<li>monthly living cost deduced.<\/li>\n<li>lower risk of loss from grid blackouts.<\/li>\n<li>extra cost is minimized for new construction.<\/li>\n<li>higher resale value as potential owners demand more ZEBs than available supply.<\/li>\n<li>the value of a ZEB building relative to similar conventional building should increase every time energy costs increase.<\/li>\n<li>future legislative restrictions, and carbon emission taxes\/penalties may force expensive retrofits to inefficient buildings.<\/li>\n<li>contribute to the greater benefits of the society, e.g. providing sustainable renewable energy to the grid, reducing the need of grid expansion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span id=\"Disadvantages\" class=\"mw-headline\">Disadvantages:<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>higher initial costs \u2013 effort required to understand, apply, and qualify for ZEB subsidies, if they exist.<\/li>\n<li>very few designers or builders have the necessary skills or experience to build ZEBs.<sup id=\"cite_ref-spiegel_24-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/li>\n<li>possible declines in future utility company renewable energy costs may lessen the value of capital invested in energy efficiency.<\/li>\n<li>new PVSC\u00a0\u00a0equipment technology price has been falling at roughly 17% per year \u2013 It will lessen the value of capital invested in a solar electric generating system \u2013 Current subsidies will be phased out as photovoltaic mass production lowers future price.<\/li>\n<li>challenge to recover higher initial costs on resale of building, but new energy rating systems are being introduced gradually.<\/li>\n<li>while the individual house may use an average of net zero energy over a year, it may demand energy at the time when peak demand for the grid occurs.
