Introduction

Resilience in architecture is the design and planning of adaptive cities to sustain a life that is suitable to users, providing them with an improved quality of life. This is to say that architecture carries the responsibility of making a city more flexible and resilient. This summarize the scope of the series of international conferences on Resilient and Responsible Architecture and Urbanism RRAU.

IEREK organizes the international conference on Resilient and Responsible Architecture and Urbanism (RRAU) - 2nd Edition in collaboration with Xiamen University Malaysia to highlight the role of architecture and urbanism in making our cities more resilient and sustainable.

This conference is a great opportunity to carry on with the discussion and rather add to research undertaken in the topic. Many of the issues to be discussed are concerned with efficient resources and urban areas, zero energy buildings, resilient infrastructure, energy and environment, and resilience in human scale to finally form a resilient city. Other topics that fit the scope and theme are renewale energy, sustainable economy, recycling, and water management.

Together, we can lead the discussion to an effective and more useful outcome to be continued after the conference's first version held in partnership with Hanze University in Groningen, Netherlands; a city setting an example for resilience.
This version is designated to be held in another city similarly characterized by high flexibility and resilience, Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia.

IEREK is pleased to invite scholars, researchers, students (undergraduate/postgraduate), organizations, municipalities and all stakeholders to contribute in this initative. Interested companies and individuals are also welcome to identify and exchange recent knowledge on the topic.

Selected papers from this conference will be published in the ASTI book series published by Springer and also in a Special Issue in the journal “Smart and Sustainable Built Environment”, published by Emerald PublishingThe journal is indexed in Scopus, which is a partner of Clarivate Analytics. Others will be published in the Resourceedings journal by IEREK Press.
